The Via Francigena in Bolsena

Bolsena is more than just a stopover; it is the beating heart of the Via Francigena in Lazio

The Via Francigena in Bolsena

Documented as early as 990 AD by Archbishop Sigeric as his mansio VIII, this ancient village continues to welcome pilgrims today with the embrace of its volcanic lake and the timeless spiritual appeal of the Basilica of Santa Cristina.

STAGE 38: FROM ACQUAPENDENTE TO BOLSENA

Stage 38 marks your official entry into the Tuscia region of Lazio. This 22-km journey winds through olive groves and scenic white roads. The most breathtaking moment arrives at San Lorenzo Nuovo, where the path opens up to reveal the first, unforgettable panoramic view of the entire Lake Bolsena basin. A gentle descent leads you directly into the historic center, where the sacred atmosphere of the Eucharistic Miracle greets every traveler.

STAGE 38: FROM ACQUAPENDENTE TO BOLSENA

Departing Bolsena for Stage 39 means immersing yourself in the pristine greenery of the Turona Natural Park. Along the 18 km leading to Montefiascone, the trail climbs steadily, offering unique glimpses of the Bisentina and Martana islands. This stretch is deeply symbolic: among oak forests and ancient Etruscan sites, you will encounter the famous stone marking exactly 100 km to St. Peter’s Tomb—the ultimate milestone on the road to the Eternal City.

My teaching profession has refined my ability to communicate. You cannot teach or illustrate art and creation without sharing a passion for beauty with others. A guide is not a book—it is the synthesis of all books and meaningful experiences from which they have drawn their knowledge, in order to share history and stories with everyone.
